Immanuel Wallerstein, Yale sociology professor and senior research scholar, has been granted the inaugural Excellence in Research and Practice Award from the International Sociological Association (ISA).

According to the official press release, Wallerstein joined Yale’s Department of Sociology in 2000. Due to his many contributions to the field, Wallerstein was recognized and honored with the ISA award. Some of his contributions include “publications, lectureships, and work with professional associations.” Has also written several books, including “European Universalism: The Rhetoric of Power,” The Road to Independence: Ghana and the Ivory Coast,” “Historical Capitalism,” and “The Modern World-System.”

ISA president Michael Burawoy said the Excellence in Research and Practice Award is the “greatest honor the organization bestows.”  The award, which will be given to Wallerstein in July 2014, will be presented to a sociologist every four years.
